While planning a getaway for Sheesh’s birthday this year, we found a gem called Woodstock. While most years we will stay at home, cook a nice meal and watch tv (boring) this year I really wanted us to hit the road, do some travel, hiking and exploring. Of course it’s a gift to myself on his birthday.. lol.
I initially had booked a trip to Puerto Rico, which you won’t believe Sheesh had me cancel for his own weird reasons :(.. but voila I found this cute tucked away BNB in the Mount Tremper area of Woodstock. The BNB was very aptly called the “Zen Mountain House”.
The drive was a little shy of 4 hours from Wilmington, DE. As usual, while I was enjoying the drive Sheesh was focused on getting us there and crash (definitely opposites attract and then drive each other crazy).
Coming back to the Zen Mountain house, it was literally tucked away at a very quiet location looking up to the mountains. Very minimally and nicely furnished and guess what… had an open terrace shower.. which we used and enjoyed thoroughly 😉

The town of Woodstock literally surprised us with its vibe ~ hippie, musical, monk like. Turns out Woodstock Music and Art Fair, commonly referred to simply as Woodstock, was a music festival held August 15–18, 1969, on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, New York, 40 miles southwest of the town of Woodstock. This is what made the place famous in history and the made it what it is today.. peaceful and so free.
It was equally nice to know that this area has a considerable Buddhist/Tibetan presence with a Monastery often visited called KTD – Karma Triyana Dharmachakra. We did manage to attend an evening prayer that I tried to capture quietly.
Since no trip of ours is complete without hiking and exploration by foot, we did manage to hit three easy/moderate trails, namely The Overlook Mountain trail, #1 in the area 4.6 miles both ways. However, when we visited it was misty but what a feeling it was.. simply surreal.. to walk through the clouds.

The next one we hit (actually stumbled upon) was the beautiful Kaaterskill Falls Trail, which of course ended at a mesmerizing waterfall where we ventured a plunge. It was an amazing experience indeed.

Lets not forget that this was my boys birthday trip and yes indeed we spent the night at home eating home cooked dinner , enjoying every bit of it. There was one meal I can’t forget Sheesh cooked himself, it was delish.. slurpp.

Cheers!!
