Woodstock, Container House- Sep 2021

After having discovered Woodstock during Sheesh’s birthday trip, we were all pumped to return to the area to explore more of this not-so hidden gem. This time around we wanted to try a different experience for stay and so it happened that I stumbled upon a Container House on Airbnb, a 40 foot modern container house to be precise, in Saugerties NY. Some people refer to Saugerties and Woodstock as best friends, both carrying their own distinct vibe but equally exciting. While Woodstock will offer you with musical streets and evenings, Saugerties will offer you the quiet (you can make your own music though).

So.. coming back to the container house, it was a great find designed and owned by a techy couple who once visited the area for a casual vacation but ended up quitting their jobs to make bnb their full time living. They have 4 container cabins that they list on bnb, each offering a different experience. Our 40 foot was the most modern of all, with a shower system, solar power, propane, wood heat and most important of all a compost toilet (Toilet..most important) and wonderfully set by a stream (you can sleep to the sound of it.. oh so peaceful!). It boasted a cool porch, set up with a fire place, grill, hammock and what not. You got to see it for yourself to admire what they have made of a container.

We decided to make this a not so busy trip, with most of the time spent meditating, reading and relaxing at the house or hanging out with a couple friend of ours who accompanied us and stayed a nearby cottage with their 3 old son. With them we hit the Ashokan trail, which was easy to walk with a toddler while you could still enjoy the lake and mountain views.

Caught up a couple of books I found at the container house, one was called “Off Grid” which was a good read on all kinds of unique living experiences and another one that was a collection of short Sufi stories. Sufi stories did catch up to me during this trip. Aside from that, just a nice time chatting and laughing with friends.

Just for the records we had only one argument this trip, as we were mostly busy figuring out living in a container house but most of all using the compost toilet.. lol.
